Christoly started when I was looking for a specific version of Caslon I wanted to use for a project. I could not find this version of Caslon, so I decided to start drawing my own. Since working on it took way too long, I ended up using a different version of Caslon for the project but the character set kept on developing. The name Christoly is a reference to Saint-Christoly-M├ędoc, a small village in southwestern France. Also it refers to Christoffel van Dijck, a dutch typedesigner from the 17th century, whose work has influenced the original drawing of Caslon by William Caslon in 1725.
