Konrad is a sans serif font family that was born from the desire to design a universal font for my personal use. The design was created over a period of eight years by repeatedly redrawing individual letters and constantly incorporating new influences from contemporary font designs. The design is based on just a simple formal idea: I wanted to design a font family that, like the first digitized grotesque fonts, has formal inconsistencies that resulted from analog manufacturing and design processes, although Konrad was created 100 percent on the screen.

The models for the design were primarily modernist classics. However, Konrad repeatedly breaks the formal severity of these role models with playful shapes like it’s questionmark, the wide architecture of the letterforms and details such
as round dots that give Konrad a modern but rather friendly character.
